    Can anyone tell me if the torque specs for an aluminum intake manifold are different than for a cast iron manifold, and if they are, what are they? Thanks.

      I posted the same question before and was told to use the factory specs same as the cast manifold.

            . . . between iron and aluminum intakes, spec was 32-35#-ft. The GT-40 spec, aluminum intake into aluminum heads, is also given as 32-35#-ft.

            E'Brock specs 25#-ft for the RPM intake, I always presumed this was because the bolts were threaded into their alum heads, they don't use inserts for the intake bolts.

            One of our Forum members torqued his Blue Thunder PI intake to 35#-ft and cracked a boss. I believe he said he used flatwashers, this is crucial with alum intakes, but he still had a failure. I don't know what BT's spec is, Rob McQ., if you're reading this, please elucidate.

            The Sidewinder that Rod sold me looks pretty fragile, it had a cracked boss I had repaired, Ford's was pretty stingy with their aluminum in these castings, this is probably why they weigh so little compared with the E'Brock or BT

            I'll use flatwashers and torque to 25#-ft, same as my old RPM, I never had a leak, and, knock wood, never cracked a boss. JMHO.

              But I always test fit - mockup - the aluminum manifolds so make sure the faces of the heads and manifolds are parallel. And I always use a grade five washer under the bolt head.

              Never had any monfolds break - knock on wood.

                        Well, Thanks everyone. I was able to dig out my service manual (64 Gal) when I got home from work tonight and found the torque specs listed:

                        352/390 = 32 to 35 ft-lbs (this would be cast iron)

                        427 = 25 to 28 ft-lbs (this would be aluminum)

                          .....my old scrapbook with the picture of the first car the intake was in, a G-code notch-back that was silverish-blue. It had the same wheels and Hi-Riser hood as the white notch-back 390 tow car, Rod.

                          BTW, what does COE stand for?
